EARTHQUAKES

Earthquakes: introduction
An earthquake is a shaking of the Earth's surface, caused by sudden movements beneath the ground. They can be so small that no-one notices them at all, or large enough to destroy many buildings. Earthquakes can happen anywhere in the world, but 90% of them happen along the Pacific Ring of Fire (including 80% of the largest earthquakes).
