Children were very precious to the Egyptians, because many died early in life.

Children went to school on a regular basis, like we do. Boys went to scribe school and learnt to read and write. The language was quite different to ours. They had 23 letters in their alphabet. They used papyrus as paper and reed pens for pencils. Girls did not go to school normally, but some girls were taught at home.

Some children had pets like monkeys, gazelles and geese. Like us, some had cats or dogs.

The Egyptian children had games like draughts, board games and puzzles.

They had wooden horses and
lions to play with. They may also have had spinning tops and wooden dolls.
