The River Nile is the world's longest river,
and was very important to the Ancient Egyptians.

The Nile flooded the fields of Egypt for four months each year. The flood waters brought rich mud from the south, which helped the crops to grow well.

When the Nile flooded the trees and fields were covered in water.

Animals of the Nile

In the Nile there were animals such as hippos, crocodiles and birds. Hippos were hunted for meat for the pharaoh. The ibis (a bird) was a secret symbol for important gods.
