She tells you about the Sirens,
beautiful maidens who sing heavenly songs to lure
sailors onto the jagged rocks of their island,
and then devour them. She gives you some wax to
block your crew's ears.
Also, she tells you of a narrow sea passage
between two cliffs, where white water rages.
Beneath the left-hand cliff there is a terrible
whirlpool, Charybdis, which swallows any ship
which passes too near but in a cave in the
right-hand cliff there is a six-headed monster,
Scylla, which snatches sailors from their ships
with its snake-like heads.
You set sail, aware of the dangers ahead, and
approach a small island from which you can
faintly hear beautiful singing.
